Harakeke learning on line

Kia Ora e te whānau,
I would like to share my new experience at teaching kaupapa digitally. We Te Puna Wairua have started to improvise and even improve on my āhuatanga ako (my pedagogy style of teaching and learning). We now have Kapa Haka up and running two days a week on google hangouts. Friday i decided to do art as the students are hands on and love art. As you can see we are making harakeke flowers and kono (bags) our whāinga (objective) is to raise money for our kaka haka rōpu and I would like to share this with other teachers who are thinking HOW do we do this?.Believe me it is not easy but it is fun! and thats what teaching is all about. Mā te Atua ka tiaki i a tātou katoa.

    1. Tēnā Koe Katarina mihi nui kia koe,
kia ora mō tō whakahokia karere kia ahau me Te Puna Wairua. ka whakautu ahau i tō patai. Kapa Haka is done through our google hangouts. The students were put into purapura groups (teams) before hand everyone mutes and the tutor choose who is to present their item that they had to learn. If they are tuakana, teina togher at home in their bubble then they present their item. Our kapa haka tutor also our Kaiāwhina then gives feed back on mita, āhuatanga tū, and what needs to be worked on. I hope this was helpful.

  6. Kia ora Lee-Ann, how innovative and responsive to be using Google Hangouts for kapa haka prcatice during lock down and in capturing the crafting of harakeke flowers and kono! All the very best with raising funds for your kaka haka rōpu. Do you have any links to the students videos or perhaps these are not on their blogs? I might try having a look through your class site. Thanks again for sharing your exciting journey with digital technologies for teaching. Nga mihi nui. Naomi (University of Auchland, Woolf Fisher Research Centre)

  7. Kia ora Whaea Lee-Ann,
I am constantly amazed at the creativity our teachers have and you have shown this in your mahi. Yes - this lockdown business has challenged us and it has made us step out of our comfort zone and think about how to deliver what our tamariki need at a distance.
Thank you for sharing your mahi. All the best with your fundraising.
